“If you want to achieve your goals, help others achieve their goals” – Zig Ziglar

There’s a lot baked into this quote. So many thoughts run through my head when I read it – help, giving, karma, learning, gratitude, satisfaction, success.

It moves the focus of “What do I need?” to “How can I serve?”. When you are serving, you are naturally putting more value out there in the world and this will come back you in some form, sometimes from somewhere else.

Then there’s the Law of Reciprocity (1) which states that when someone does something nice for you, you have a deep-rooted psychological urge to do something nice back. I think this is a small part of it but not all.

When you are helping others, you understand them and their challenge in more depth, learning in the process. Learning is always good as you can apply this in your own life as well.

By being able to help someone and see them succeed, you also feel a sense of gratitude and satisfaction that comes from being able to serve. This helps you feel happier which can only be good when you are working on your own goals too.

When we think of us as one, by helping others, know that we are also helping ourselves.

How do you serve?
